Lukewarm Water

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, I can now die happy. Last night I shook Harry Shearer’s hand, and listened to him sing one of the funniest songs of political satire I have ever heard in my life. It’s called “Addicted to Oil” and is done in the voice (and, happily, with the mannerisms) of our very own Commander In Chief, George W. Bush.

Harry Shearer as Derek Smalls

Yep, that Harry Shearer.

Harry was at Mississippi Studios last night, supporting his lovely, talented and also very funny wife, whose name is Judith Owen.

I was there because (more…)

Mike Doughty Plays Mississippi Studios

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

I love working at Mississippi Studios. At least once a month I get turned onto somebody I shoulda already been turned onto. Or sometimes that’s how it seems.

Before the Show

Mike Doughty is well known as the front man for 90s indie band, Soul Coughing. He characterizes the demise of that band as “like (more…)

Camping in the Redwoods (Part 3)

More Elk! I think this is my favorite of the elk photos I’ve taken:

Horny

A totally unrelated aside: I’ve been listening to an internet radio station called Radio Paradise. Y’all should check it out. Last three tunes? Leonard Cohen, The Pixies, Neil Young backed by Pearl Jam. OMG, I’m in heaven!

Anyways, after camping in the Redwoods at Elk Prairie, we moved on the next night to (more…)

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Last picture post, I left you with a photo of Hecata Head Lighthouse. Here’s another, from a slightly different vantage point:

Where’s the Beef?

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Here’s a beefy post with no pictures. Mostly comprised of news. Really, really good news!

First, about my last post - the one about me getting national exposure for my work - if you want to listen to the Terence Blanchard show, you need Real Player, which is free. Also, there are two “listen now” links on this web page. The first is the University of Michigan Jazz Band, which is just “OK”. The second link is actually the Terence Blanchard portion of the show. If you’re into jazz in any way, it’s worth a listen. FYI.

Second, Stacy passed the Oregon Bar exam!! Hooray!!

Third, I now work part time at a venue-slash-recording studio called “Mississippi Studios” here in Portland. You can check out our website here. Pretty cool. I’m a jack of all trades at this small business (studio recording work, front of house sound reinforcement, tending bar, production manager, etc…) …it’s a great place.

Fourth, Portland was just written up in Slate. Check it out here.

Told you it was beefy! :-D
