Early this spring, (February 9th, to be exact) I ventured out into my new city with my camera to see what I could see. It was 65 degrees and sunny. There was no snow on the ground, and I tried, and failed, to keep from feeling just a little smug that I had escaped from the snowy winter “wonderland” that is Michigan.

Road Trip!

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

A couple of weeks ago, I decided it was time to get out of town for a bit. Initially, I thought it would be great to drive down the coast to someplace warm(er), like Monterey or San Diego (Sandy Eggo if you’re Steve Poltz). However, I decided because of time constraints to just limit myself to Bend, Crater Lake and the National Redwood Forest. This was my first time doing a totally solo road trip since 2001, and it felt good.

While I did bring my camera, my first priority was to just experience the trip without too much emphasis on capturing everything on pixels. Thus, there are less photos per day on this trip…but there are still some good ones I think.

The photos in this first post are not going to be in any particular order.

Here is sunset on the third day of my trip, as seen from the Redwood National Park scenic coastal drive, near Klamath CA:

More Elk! I think this is my favorite of the elk photos I’ve taken:

Horny

A totally unrelated aside: I’ve been listening to an internet radio station called Radio Paradise. Y’all should check it out. Last three tunes? Leonard Cohen, The Pixies, Neil Young backed by Pearl Jam. OMG, I’m in heaven!

Anyways, after camping in the Redwoods at Elk Prairie, we moved on the next night to (more…)

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Last picture post, I left you with a photo of Hecata Head Lighthouse. Here’s another, from a slightly different vantage point:

Camping in the Redwoods! (part 1)

At the end of July, Stacy sat for the Oregon bar exam. We decided that a reward for all that work was in order, so we took a short camping trip down to northern California via the Oregon coast.

First night, we stopped at a National Park called *ahem* Tillicum Beach, near Waldport OR. Very cool little campground, but very busy. All the campgrounds were on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Next morning, I made coffee, and here is what I saw:
