Little Miss Sunshine and DeVotchka
A couple of weekends ago, I had a really fun experience. Perhaps you can relate…you’re watching a movie, and enjoying it. You hear the soundtrack, and think to yourself, “why do I know this music?!” In my case, the movie was Little Miss Sunshine, and the soundtrack music was largely written by a band called DeVotchka (or their lead singer, Nick Urata). It was not all that long ago that I blogged about seeing an unusual act at Bonnaroo…
Ok, so it was 7, almost 8 months ago. Who’s counting at this point?
The movie was lovely. You should see it, if only for the dinner scene. Both the film (nominated for four awards) and the band (nominated for best compilation soundtrack) deserve any accolades they get at tonight’s Academy Awards. DeVotchka’s music really contributed to the feel of the film…I’ll be very interested to see what happens with this band during 2007. According to Wikipedia, the performance I witnessed at Bonnaroo was considered a “breakout performance”.
Things that make you go “hmm”.
