F the CC
Steve Earle played on Sunday at one of the smaller venues at Bonnaroo. (I actually can’t believe I’m still writing about this, given that the event was this summer. I do have fresher material, believe it or not. We’ll get to it, promise.)
Steve started his set with a song called “F the CC”. You can find the lyrics
here. I’ll leave it to you to puzzle out what he’s saying in this photo:
A short way into his set, Steve mentioned that he really doesn’t get out to play much at this point in his life, and that his thumb was giving him trouble as he was playing. “They say that opposable thumbs are what set us humans apart from the apes, and I’ve managed to turn mine into a handicap.” [laughter] He continued, saying, “Actually, what separates us from the rest of the animals is the fact that we make and consume art. It’s incredibly important.”
Another phenomenal set that we saw on Sunday was Jerry Douglas, the dobro player who is famous for touring with Alison Krauss:
Coming up next, the miserable alt-country hero, Jay Farrar!
